Lense refocuses the light as if they are coming from far away. Apart from that, these lenses magnify the length of images. It also forms separate images for each eye.

The embedded sensors fixed in the goggles senses the wearer’s head motions and adjust images accordingly. Rift adjusts the image so fast that the brain does not notice the delay.

However, the current sensors are not fast enough so there is latency in the immersive experience. It in fact uses two sensors since current sensors are not fast enough.

What is the difference between Augmented Reality and Virtual Reality?

In augmented reality (AR), graphics are superimposed over a view of the real world. But, Oculus Rift allows you to experience only 3D world, and not the real world.
